I’m re-reading all of Jane Austen’s books this year. In Pride and Prejudice I’d put Lizzy as Body/fighter/leader, Mary as Mind/Mage (scholar) and Jane as Spirit/Cleric/Healer. Lydia (and Kitty to a lesser degree) is the Rogue. Without her Lizzy and Darcy, Jane and Bingley wouldn’t have married and Mrs Bennet wouldn’t have had a safe future or Mary and Kitty opportunities to meet single men of a good fortune in want of a wife. And she is the catalyst for a lot of truth being exposed.
I’m also reading War and Peace with Simon Haisell but I don’t think my brain can cope with sorting that out yet although Pierre is possibly the rogue/truth
This made me wish I could time travel back to highschool just so you could be my English teacher. If I'd had a teacher like you I'm pretty sure the entire trajectory of my life would be changed.
Aww, that's very kind of you to say. I did have a student comment recently that my cursive is difficult to read but that I pushed them to try things they wouldn't normally have done. Which... sounds a little sinister! I promise I did not make them skydive or spelunk. Heh. (But, if it were in the budget... hmm...)
A little lite axe-throwing or slack-lining might be a more budget friendly option, that my inner teenager would totally get behind. And my inner 40 year old.
Catching up on the posts here but I’m hooked! Like you say not all stories need this quadrant of characters but do you think key stakes will be missing without the rogue/instigator? Also curious if you have thoughts on whether the rogue should be the main character/POV?
Woah... so much to think through.
I’m still thinking and that day in class was 2016.
I love this. And I love the idea that the fourth element is truth. I think that's correct. And true in my novel, as well. So say one, so say all.
Thus it was written. The fourth element is truth. SOUND THE GONG.
